LOUISBURG -- Thanks to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s recent realignment, every Franklin County baseball game will take on an added measure of importance over the next four years.
That’s because, at least until the next NCHSAA change, all of the county’s clubs -- Franklinton, Louisburg and Bunn -- will compete for supremacy in the Class 2-A Northern Carolina Conference.
HENDERSON -- Bunn rallied from an early deficit to make things interesting, but Northern Vance eventually pulled away to earn a 9-4 victory over the Ladycats during prep softball action Monday afternoon on the NVHS campus.
Stormi Barham and Morgan Pearce delivered two hits apiece for the Ladycats, who dropped to 1-5 overall.
BUNN -- A Home Run Derby will be held April 17 at the Bunn High School Baseball Field.
All proceeds will benefit the Duke University Hospital Epilepsy Center.
The event is part of a senior project at BHS by Stormi Barham, whose brother, Joshua, was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2008.

LOUISBURG -- Every game is destined to be a learning situation this softball season for the young Louisburg College Lady Hurricanes.
Louisburg, a squad dominated by freshmen, experienced the euphoria of a late-inning victory -- and the disappointment of back-to-back close losses -- as part of a four-game weekend last Saturday and Sunday at Sheilah R. Cotten Field on the LC campus.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested three men this week charged with killing a Kittrell-area man during a home invasion.
Sheriff Pat Green said they are pursuing warrants on a fourth man and looking for four others who barreled into Anthony Perry’s home after midnight Tuesday, armed with two guns looking for drugs and money, killing the 30-year-old with a high-caliber gun.

On Thursday morning, the United Way of Franklin County recognized those who have made it possible for the agency to help more people than they hoped — exceeding their donation goal by more than $7,000.
The 2009-10 campaign generated $127,874, exceeding the goal of $120,000, and United Way staff and officials held a community celebration at Louisburg College’s Seby Jones Center for the Performing Arts.

Franklinton Police issued warrants this week for a man they say is responsible for a drive-by shooting last weekend.
Investigators believe Rashawn Leon Arrington, 23, used the same gun to shoot up a Layton Street home last Saturday that was used in a suspected shootout last month.
Neither event caused injury, but it has rattled neighbors and heightened police concerns.

A Louisburg man who told a Superior Court judge last week that he wanted to get a high-priced attorney to beat an armed robbery case was arrested this week on drug charges.
Louisburg Police Officer Travis Lincoln arrested Patrick Xaiver Davis during a traffic stop that led to the recovery of more than 23 grams of marijuana inside a driver’s side door compartment.

Authorities responded to two fires this past week, one that appears suspicious and one that was accidental.
According to a report by Dep. Nathan Rinker, emergency crews responded just before midnight on March 15 to a fire at 135 Oak Forest Lane in the Franklinton area.

It would appear that the not-yet-official “state flower” of North Carolina is in full bloom.
No, it’s not the early blooming plums, pears or even the ornamental peach and cherry trees that are beginning to make such a showing.

It would appear that there is a move afoot in the North Carolina General Assembly to take a look at opening up the state’s overly restrictive personnel ordinances to public scrutiny.
