BUNN -- Few teams have been able to have Bunn’s number on the softball field, but the Nash Central Lady Bulldogs have been one of those clubs -- at least over the past two seasons.
Central has now won four consecutive outings against the Ladycats following a 10-1 road decision Tuesday in a non-conference fast-pitch game on the BHS campus.

Wildcats get past Southern
HENDERSON -- Bunn High School’s boys tennis team stepped out of league action Wednesday and scored a 7-2 road victory against Southern Vance at Fox Pond Park.
The Wildcats won four of the singles matches and swept the three doubles events.
Bunn has claimed both team matches against the Raiders this season.

DANVILLE, ILL. -- Louisburg College made a bit of history Wednesday in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament.
In topping Grand Rapids CC by an 88-66 margin, the Hurricanes won for the first time on the national tourney level in at least the past 50 years.

LC sweeps a twinbill against St. Paul’s
LOUISBURG -- After 10 days of cancellations -- both by the weather and opponents -- the Louisburg College Lady Hurricanes were anxious to get back on to the field Thursday for a home softball doubleheader against St. Paul’s.
Louisburg put that anticipation to its favor as LC rolled to a twinbill sweep against its four-year school opponent from Virginia at Sheilah R. Cotten Field.

Man killed in home invasion
A Franklin County man was killed Tuesday morning during a home invasion.
According to Sheriff Pat Green, deputies were called out to 40 Baileys Creek Drive, a subdivision off Walter Grissom Road, to investigate a disturbance at about 12:30 a.m.
There were signs of a break-in at the home, but investigators were unable to locate the homeowner, Anthony Perry, in the darkness.

It was a good thing for Tommy Riggan that Warren Smith didn’t hold a grudge.
And it was a good thing for Franklin County that Smith held true to his commitment as an educator.
Smith, a long-time superintendent of Franklin County Schools died Saturday.
He was 86.

Bikers tore out of the Franklinton municipal parking lot for a good cause Saturday.
About a dozen or so Franklinton Rolling Thunder members and others took part in the organizations’ first Poker Run, an event to raise money and awareness about the plight of Prisoners of War, those missing in action, and veterans.

Louisburg bans downtown churches
In two unanimous moves, the Louisburg Town Council Monday night approved changes that would allow crematories as an accessory use to a funeral home in a commercial district and banned churches in the downtown business district.
Both moves had the recent endorsement of the Louisburg Planning Board.
Tony King, Louisburg’s assistant administrator, explained to the board that crematories are not presently addressed in the town’s zoning ordinances.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners decided Monday night that it’s time they get in on the Early College High School program discussion.
Also on Monday night, Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees authorized its college president to work with commissioners to figure out how to fund a building that will meet both group’s needs.

Lake Donna and triathlon receive TDA grants
The county’s tourism advocacy group approved grants for two projects designed to bring visitors to the area.
The Tourism Development Authority agreed on Monday to recommend a $1,500 grant for the Youngsville Area Business Association’s annual Lake Donna Party.

Shots fired into house
Police are looking for suspects alleged to have fired into a Franklinton home on Saturday.
According to a report by Franklinton Det. Reggie Noflett, Chief John Green Jr., notified him that officers had received reports of shots being fired into a home at 105 Layton Street at about 8:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported.

Commissioners face off over nepotism policy
Franklin County commissioners agreed to do more research before it would adopt a conflict of interest policy that, as written, would prevent any commissioners family member from holding any county job.
Commissioner Harry Foy presented board members last month with a conflict of interest resolution with two purposes: keeping commissioners from taking personal actions that could have a negative impact on their service to the board, and keeping employees or board members from having immediate family members work for the county.

“General Motors and D&J Automotive are talking -- that’s the crux of the whole matter,” said Phyllis Jeffreys Culbreth, the owner/operator of the Louisburg dealership that was started by her late father, Tommie Jeffreys and the late Winston Davis.
She was responding to questions about General Motors’ decision to reinstate  661 of 1,160 dealerships it had planned to drop.

According to published reports, the FBI and other agencies are going on  social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using fake profiles to get the drop on criminals.
