VGCC offers Basic Welding course at Franklin Campus
Sparks will fly when Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus in Louisburg holds a Basic Welding course this fall. Classes are offered on Saturdays, Sept. 6 through Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Students will learn welding safety, gas welding, operation of a cutting torch, electric welding, arc welding and many other aspects of welding. In addition, they will be involved in hands-on activities to showcase their new skills. The class will be taught by Shaun Best. The cost of the class will be $60. VGCC Franklin Campus offers Spanish
VGCC will offer a Conversational Spanish course at its Franklin County Campus on Monday evenings, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 8 - Nov. 24. The course will teach non-Spanish speakers the basics of the language, with an emphasis on oral comprehension and verbal response skills. Nydia Dohnert will be the instructor. VGCC Franklin Campus offers Class for Bookkeepers, Administrative Professionals
An upcoming course at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus is designed for employees who want to brush up on organizational and bookkeeping skills while improving their secretarial and receptionist skills. “Bookkeeping/Administrative Assistant Training” will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 9 through Nov. 25, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on the Franklin campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg. Students will learn about accounting principles, payroll records, inventory systems, telephone skills/professionalism, time management, business communication and problem solving. Classes will include guest speakers, classroom projects and hands-on activities. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive 3.6 CEU's and a Certificate of Completion for 36 classroom membership hours. VGCC Franklin Campus offers Sign Language for beginners
Starting Sept. 9, a Sign Language class for beginners will be held on the VGCC Franklin County Campus on Tuesdays from 6 until 9 p.m. The course will conclude on Nov. 25. Instructor Tonya Jester will help students learn a new skill that opens up a creative way of communicating with individuals who are hearing-impaired and verbally challenged. Holiday Sweets and Treats
With holidays fast approaching, Vance-Granville Community College will offer a course, “Holiday Sweets and Treats,” this fall at its Franklin County Campus. Classes will be held Thursday evenings, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 11 through Nov. 13, on the campus, which is located on N.C. Highway 56 near Louisburg. “This hands-on class offers great ideas for quick and easy holiday goodies that will tantalize your taste buds,” according to Franklin Campus Director Anthony Pope. The students will also be introduced to the world of "Pastry Art" with a brief introduction to cake decorating by their instructor, Chef George E. VGCC Franklin Campus Offers QuickBooks Course
Vance-Granville Community College will offer a class on using the popular QuickBooks accounting software at its Franklin County Campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg. The course will be taught on Thursday nights from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., Sept. 11 through Oct. 23. The QuickBooks 2006 course is designed to introduce students to the basic features of QuickBooks, a powerful accounting system for small businesses. Students will be given an opportunity for hands-on practice. They will learn the types of information that businesses need to track and how to enter and track that information in QuickBooks. In addition, students will learn to invoice customers, record payments for customers, pay bills to outside vendors, manage inventory and analyze financial data. By the end of the course, each student should be familiar with most common tasks and know where to locate information about more advanced features. The cost of the QuickBooks course is $55. VGCC Franklin Campus Offers Crochet Class
A Crochet course for beginners will be taught at Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus, starting Sept. 16. Classes will be held on the campus, located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg, Tuesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., through Nov. 4. Students will be able to use what they learn in class to create accessories such as jewelry, clothes, stuffed animals and handbags for friends, family or themselves. Stephanie Stevens will serve as the instructor. The cost of the class is $50, plus the cost of supplies.
